At the beginning of the new century, in the world that lived through Modernism and Post-Modernism, what does Modern mean at all?
If we adopt the Modernists optimism and their idea that the world can be transformed and improved by human intervention, how do we translate those values to contemporary societies? In the era of superabundant information and declining natural resources, how do we achieve progress and is Modernism's social agenda still relevant? What is the role of design, architecture, and communications in general, in re-shaping our world?

BDW searches for connections between these disciplines and cultural expressions like literature, publishing, and film, in order to stimulate the social and political debate and eventually, open the doors to the social change.
