PRETTYPRETTY, Dejana Kabiljo

The exhibition of Dejana Kabiljo, organized within the program Beograd2 will be open on Tuesday, May 8, 2007, at 8.00 pm. The works will be exhibited in the DISTRICT gallery, at the Museum of Applied Arts.

Under the motto: Pretty heads to sit on explore the nicely regulated erotic allure that surrounds us, tracing out the customary grammar of desire, D.P. Mc Manus introduces us to the exhibition, with the following words:

“You don’t just fall out of the shower looking like that, pale champagne streaks in ash blonde hair reflect the flattering look of soft shading. Hair falls freely in a deep tumble of waves, pale blonde tendrils... Dizzying swirls of color.”

These beauties, angelic and gracious, radiate self assurance, yet: “what shall we do with all this useless beauty?”

Revolutionary Design: Patricia Urquiola

Almost being unknown several years ago, Patricia Urquiola has acquired the status of the leading female star in the world of industrial design, traditionally dominated by men. Her creations are, at the same time, both stylish and functional, and her design reflects paradoxical combinations of strictness and anarchy, conformity and individualism.

After having finished her studies in architecture at Faculdad de Arquitectura de Madrid, she graduated from Milan Polytechnic, in 1998, with Achille Castiglioni being her mentor. Castiglioni and Magistreti, two key figures of Milan design, have significantly influenced her work and directed her talent and capability.

When she represented her creations at Milan Furniture Fair (I Saloni Milano) in 2004, the newspaper headings stated that the new star with “volcano” character had come to Milan. She has been invited to present her vision of ideal house of future, at the next-year Furniture Fair in Köln, in the project reserved only for the biggest talents.

Since 2001, Patricia Urquiola has run her studio in Milan and worked with elite brands, including Driade, B&B Italia, MDF, Moroso, Kartell, Knoll and many others.

Branding from Scratch: Gaye Cevikel

Gaye Cevikel is the founder of the Turkish company that has created a recognizable global design brand with a Turkish identity. Gaia and Gino brand is owned by Decorum Inc, founded in 1992, which has introduced design products from the whole world to the Turkish market, thus becoming one of the pioneers of design in Turkey.

Having realized that in the world of design, there were no international brands from Turkey, Gaye made a step towards the production of her own collections and the establishment of a new design brand in 2004. Despite a relatively short existence at the market of designed products, Gaia and Gino managed to win prestigious awards in the field of design - two “Design Plus” awards for the collections “Morphescape” and “Mistic”, the “Good design” award for the “Liquids” collection, and finally, the bronze IDEA award for Kari-Ari-Arim-Rim candle holders of Karim Rashid.

Gaia and Gino cooperates with the renowned designers, such as Andrée Putman, Arik Levy, Karim Rashid  and Yves Béhar and enables a remarkable cultural and design experience. Their collections interpret Turkish rituals in a new, unconventional way. They are emotional, though sexy, luxurious, though simple.

The brand has four lines of products: home, personal, dog and office accessories, which are sold in the most prestigious stores worldwide.

Droog: Smart Deco 2 Show

Within the Droog exhibition in Milan, the studio Libertiny has presented the project With a Little Help of the Bees - a vase made by bees.

Tomas Gabzdil Libertiny has made a vase-shaped beehive, and subsequently allowed bees to colonize it, creating a six-sided honeycomb around it. Libertiny has referred to this process as “a slow prototyping” - he needed 40 000 bees to make the vase in one week.
