Nika Zupanc participates at Miss Dior Exhibition in Paris
By Igor Vidovic

One of BDW’s favorite guest speakers, young Slovenian designer NIKA ZUPANC, was commissioned to do what we consider to be a dream job: set design for an exhibition at Galerie courbe / Grand Palais in Paris, dedicated to Miss Dior, a celebrated fragrance of the legendary Parisian fashion house of Dior. The exhibit takes place from November 13 to November 25, 2013.

Miss Dior exhibition showcases the timeless, modern character of this fragrance. It traces a dialogue between Art and Dior, eternal ally to artists. Fifteen female artists have been invited to freely interpret the signature codes of Miss Dior. These artists pay tribute not only to one of the greatest couturiers of all time, but also to the subversive spirit of a perfume that has earned its place in history.

The project titled: Room of one’s own by Nika Zupanc for Miss Dior, demonstrates that Nika’s design sensibility resonates perfectly with the spirit of Christian Dior, embodying the essence of femininity and Parisian style. It is all about “that heady feeling when you encounter a fragrance, blown up into a larger-than-love object”, says Nika. Her inspiration came from the bow on Miss Dior bottle and she created a presentation case adorned with dainty pink bows. She conceived a Room of one’s own inspired by Virginia Woolf’s essay. The room is pink and black walls are decorated with the signature Dior “cannage” stitch motif, and a chair with a bow for a back sits enthroned within. This is a space dedicated to writing and reflection. “It has just enough space for the very fabulous but utterly basic tools needed for heart searching – a table, a chair and a lamp”. It is “a metaphysical sanctuary with emancipatory potential, an invitation to hide and seek.”
If you happen to be in Paris for the exhibition, lucky you!!! If not, here are some of the works by these amazing women: (

I stopped working for others because then I have the responsibility and I feel like an advertising agency. When I work for Yello, I can make a fool out of myself. Whatever I do I go through the process of becoming a child, an idiot, totally unimportant. When I have the responsibility to start with it is disturbing." "I think every human is a God. All our life is about becoming like a child, trying to find out who is really hidden inside yourself, who you really are, who is the divine being inside. Great alpinist climb mountains not to become world famous, but to learn something about themselves, to come closer to that inner-child. If you are exposing yourself to the process of climbing the mountain, it is very important you are prepared to make a fool of yourself, to let yourself fall into the emptiness of vague idea, and to have the courage to be a total idiot. Only then you have a chance to die with the smile on your face.
