2F
Exhibition of photography
Author Nebojsa Babic
PLACE: PROGRES gallery
Knez Mihailova 27
TIME: 28. april – 18. maj 2008.
Before us are photographs by Nebojsa Babic, which were taken during his ten day stay in Japan, in April 2008. This is an artist who is capable of recognizing, seeing and “recording” the world around him. These photographs become a true stimulus to the expansion of one's mental geography.
Babic's 2F photographic message is especially recognizable by those that believe that “life is a journey” and that “the journey of poetic thought leads to the East”, and they will be able to identify that on our mission towards attaining “the unattainable”, we must not anchor ourselves anywhere for too long, not even the Balkans. |

TIME: Opening ceremony at 18h

Time, a concept a double meaning, at once a measure of transience and climate changes in nature, has inspired many areas of art. Ceramics is a perfect medium through which to explore this subject matter, because of its long history and presence in the artisitc scenes of times passed.
Time is for discovering. This is the central idea of our project, which includes a workshop and (video/DVD) presentation of the creative process behind the works presented at the exhibition, in order to acquaint the public with the smallest details of the media used, and help them to discover our take on the importance of time in art. |

HYPERBOREA
Ajla Selenic
PLACE: Galerija USUF
Uskocka 5
TIME: Opening ceremony at 19h
Duration: May 6-15, 2008
Hyperborea is а creative project conceived in the boundary area of art and design. Begun as a study of material, its deployment and expressive qualities in design, it grew into an art work reflecting upon the essential meaning of a creative process and the ability of conveying the ontological and poetical qualities of form.
This is a continuous work on an abstract structural theme of transforming the linear element into surface, by inventing a special technique of manually bending the straight metal wire into the continuous transparent surfaces, several meters large. The structure spontaneously created as a consistent, systematic pattern of an unsystematic search for a free form, gave possibility to create three-dimensional spaces and various objects from miniature to the large scale.
All of the works made within Hyperborea project are unique, emphasizing the distinctive value of the hand work and its unparalleled content of given energy, devotedness and consecration. The use of this special handwork technique which demands great patience and consistency, as well the time consuming working process are a statement of deliberate rejection of the imposition of speed in contemporary society.
This work is suggesting a more complex perspective relating to the notion of "contemporary" or "modern", focusing our attention toward the integrity of opinions and choices, and particularly towards the immaterial values.
Ajla Selenic is Serbian architect, designer and artist born 1960 in Split. She studied architecture, graduated at the Belgrade University in 1986 and continued to work as independent architect in Belgrade untill 1990.
Since 1990 Ajla Selenic is living in Finland, Helsinki, where she established her own office for architecture and design in 1995. She is working continuously on diverse architectural, design and art projects both in Finland and in her home country.

waves, pale blonde tendrils... Dizzying swirls of color."

PLACE: Pedagogical Museum
Uzun Mirkova 14
TIME: Workshop and presentation from 12-19h
- Presentation and lecture on following topic: “Design for disabled persons”
- Workshop with students of Architecture and Landscape Architecture
Speaking of modern life and its challenges, one cannot escape the notion of dynamic development which opened new issues of responsibility of human activities within the boundaries that do not threaten the environment.
Modern life in Serbia – only 10% of materials are recycled.
When we speak of modern life, we speak of equal rights of all men in all areas of life.
Modern life in Belgrade – 170 000 citizens of Belgrade do not have equal opportunity to attend the various cultural events.
We wish to address precisely this problem of modern life through the project of recycled materials ramp construction for disabled persons. |

Nebojsa Joksimovic is an architect with over a decade’s worth of experience in interior design. Design to him is not only the external quality of object, but a way to spirituality in which form plays only the small part.
„Creating an object is a process nearing time rather than space. The author is more important than the object. Nevertheless, I try to make a simple utility object and not interfere between idea and materialization.“
Zeljko Milovic is a sculptor who entered the world of applied arts through interior design. He approaches each object as a sculpture, never losing sight of the purpose of the object which gives a clearly identifiable artistic style. He uses various materials for his work, this time concentrating on unique pieces of wooden furniture. By using natural finish instead of lacquer in the final stages of production, the natural quality of wood is preserved and, over time, the ageing process gives it more mature and ripe color. |

PLACE: Manak’s house
Gavrila Principa 5
TIME: Opening ceremony at 19h
Duration: May 07-14, 2008
Modern business environments are frequently constructed from materials such as brass, plexiglass, marble and leather, leaving them monotonous and cold.
In order to make these spaces more accessible and pleasurable as well as aesthetically welcoming, students from the School for Design have decided to transform a selection of these spaces through the "art of screens", showing the modern business environment from a different perspective.
Fully aware of the visual influence the screens can have in transforming the space, the students combine various materials, forms and colors, thus giving the interior new and completely different visual identity. |

Singularity of the objects, handcraftsmanship and old art-craft workmanship supporter, KAPRIC is only one face of beauty able to support the individuals who wish for themselves a distinct kind of aesthetic. And finally, there is only one kind of impression – nothing is more beautiful than the possiblity… |

re:MOVE the City
DESTATIC
interdisciplinary student group at the University of Arts in Belgrade
PLACE: Zeleni venac, Belgrade
TIME: all day
Belgrade is a city of changeable identity,
discontinued memory,
opposing influences,
always on the move.
The complexity of the present social situation provokes the questions of the relation towards all things modern, accepting and resisting the changes, the lack of communication, selective memory and identity issues; the fluctuating rhythms of the city (speeding up and slowing down); the problem of dehumanization and stripping of the aesthetics of living spaces, the inertia and negligence of the existing problem (lack of space). The need to reestablish urban legends and positive tradition arises, together with the need to rebuild the memory of the city by bringing to life the diverse points in the city while finding viable alternatives to the official approach to the same problem.
The re:MOVE the City (Grad u pokretu) project processes the activities of local urban spaces, brings up the larger picture of the specific microspaces in the city and redefines the routine approach in tackling our problems. Site-specific projects map the urban spaces of conflicting identities. The particular aspects of each space's character are analyzed (cultural, sociological, historical, aesthetical, functional), questions asked, city potentials pointed out and changes initiated.
Our site-specific approach to this problem has certain advantages over conventional art forms in that it directly speaks to different focus groups, among whom there are often less accessible and less artistic audiences. Our interdisciplinary approach takes into consideration the interpretation of collective memory and individual impressions. Likewise, direct contact with the spaces and personal approaches to them facilitates change in the local community.
Resources used in forming the eight separate artistic presentations include research of the modern use of the space and the relation of people to it, as well as examination of the area's history. Our research highlighted the problems of each of the eight chosen spaces and we respond with artistic interventions, including performance, installation, video art and exhibitions.
The results of these events will be presented through the READY, SET, GO project, pointing out the fast pace of life and the problems it creates. The Zeleni venac market is the good example of this. Picnic, poetry reading and chess playing are at the opposite end of the routine bustle of this grey area of Belgrade. The aim of these activities is to create contrasting atmosphere and provoke dramatic confrontation that motivates change.
The project is being staged in cooperation with the Four+Four Days in Motion international festival from Prague (www.ctyridny.cz), which gathers innovative theatrical projects, exhibitions, projections, concerts and other artistic exhibitions and independent artistic group MAMAPAPA (www.mamapapa.cz) from Prague whose objective is to connect innovative young artists and professional artistic projects. |

GHOST PROJECT 08: FOR REAL
PLACE: Magacin in Kraljevica Marka street
Kraljevica Marka 4
TIME: Opening ceremony at 22h
Duration: May 8 -15, 2008
Arising from the need to point out the ever-growing economical, social and cultural importance of industrial design today, in 2006. the MIKSER organization set up in motion Ghost Project whose symbolic title expressed criticism of the lack of this discipline in Serbia.
Owing to the full attention of the very authors and media alike, Ghost Project has grown from a “one-time” event to a work in progress – becoming a dynamic database on talents from Serbia.
This year, we go one step beyond.
Multimedia presentations of unrealized works of young designers become the integral part of the exhibition as inspiration, while the central setup of this year’s Ghost Project will show prototypes realized by the authors themselves, within school projects, or in cooperation with clients or potential furniture manufacturers.
Owing to enthusiasm and dedication of the Jasen company, eight different works of young designers will be produced as prototypes and thus come into existence. Select pieces will enter the factory trial run and, after the testing, those that pass the consumers’ strict demands will go into mass production and become part of Jasen company’s official line of furniture. |

Pages of the official British Council Serbia website where the activities, pieces of work and information about the participants were shown during the project’s life cycle are included with the book on a DVD. |

Telenor collection of contemporary Serbian art
The collection has been chosen in cooperation with REMONT, the independent art association.
PLACE: The Cvijeta Zuzoric Art Pavillion
Mali Kalemegdan 1
TIME: Opening ceremony at 20h
The basis of the Telenor collection of contemporary Serbian art are works created from the year 2000 onwards, as well select older pieces from the Nineties. The exhibition at the Cvijeta Zuzoric Art Pavillion includes sculptures, installations, classic paintings, photographs and digital prints. The collection was conceptualised and built as a corporative art collection that “lives” in an office space but is also accessible to the public. The selection of pieces was based around the idea of integration into the everyday workplace - practical art not confined to the walls of people's homes. The collection brings together works that provoke, ask questions and, above all, affect people who use the space it occupies. Furthermore, it has a broader social impact, the selection of works representing an overview of the present Serbian art scene. The collection is a link to the already recognised values embodied in the works of renowned artists of the middle generation, such as Mrdjan Bajic, Gabriel Glid, Aleksandar Rafajlovic, Zdravko Joksimovic, Talent Factory, as well as the works of the younger generation led by Biljana Djurdjevic, Aleksandar Macasev, Petar Mirkovic, Hana Rajkovic and many others.
