Initiative & Production: Maja Popović
Support by: Belgrade Youth Cultural Centre
The idea for the project UNITED STUDENTS OF DESIGN has derived from the need to help students of design with the presentation and mutual connection, but it is also inspired by the last year’s festival BELGRADE DESIGN WEEK 06. The students have expressed a wish to somehow become a part of this festival, but also a part of a creative and innovative Belgrade that opened its door to them during the festival. Hence, we have organized an exhibition of students of Belgrade faculties studying all fields of design, which has surprised us by a big number of its visitors and delighted us with the attention drawn to the works by these young and talented people, who otherwise have no opportunity to present their ideas in such manner.
In order to establish a tradition of convening the students from all fields of design to work on the project UNITED STUDENTS OF DESIGN, we organize this year the exhibition Structure Design Modify, within the BELGRADE DESIGN WEEK 07. The exhibition features works by students from their regular education curriculum at the Faculty for Design, the Faculty of Applied Arts and Design, the Higher School of Arts and the Higher Polytechnic School.
The cultural centre Warehouse in Kraljevica Marka is a new place in the field of cultural-educational activities of the stage, music and visual creation, which has already been affirmed by opening its premises to the October Salon. The Warehouse in Kraljevica Marka is 2000 meters square and it contains working and exhibiting facilities, along with a members-only club, with a completely new model of cultural activities.
The aim of this exhibition is to send a message that there is a highly trained and significant cadre in design, which contributes to the consciousness raising in the visual field, as well as to the development of criteria on which the modern domestic design should be based.

Project 'TITANIUM' - DIGITGROUP
TIME: Monday, 7 May 2007, from 5.00 pm - 8.00 pm
MESTO: Rectorate of the University of Arts
Kosancicev venac 29, Belgrade
room 25
The project has been conceived as a creative interactive workshop, in which DIGITGROUP members, together with the visitors, design a WEB site in real-time, in the previously prepared matrices.
Using various media, such as photography, sound, video and text, which are immanent in the spatial event at the given moment, the artists incorporate the abovementioned contents into the previously prepared matrices, reshaping them in a specific way. Using the software for post-production of sound, photographs and video images, as well as the software for montage thereof and the text with the advertising content in the background, the active material (everything that is created by the very presence of the visitors) is critically selected, added, and designed for the finished WEB site. What is interesting about this project is the fact that this WEB site is interactively active 3 hours, from the beginning to the end of the event, and it will be active, as a promo-material, an advertisement, in the following period.
DIGITGROUP is an art group, founded in 2005 in Belgrade. The group comprises nine artists dealing with digital art. They are - Darko Antonijević, Dragana Grbić, Milan Djurić, Miloš Djurić, Katarina Djordjević Urošević, Jelena Lalić, Jelena Milosavljević, Julijana Protić are Goran Rubil.

"Kiss of the Dream" - Mirjana Ranković The exhibition of handmade jewellery
TIME: Monday, 7 May 2007, at 7.00 pm - OPENING
PLACE: ZVONO Gallery, Visnjiceva Street, Dorcol
Jewellery as an accompaniment of a clothing item, sometimes stands in front, and sometimes acts as a discreet fellow-passenger of the image. The precise shaping in the play of the precious metal (gold), briliants and coquetry with the steal, brings about a ring (or other object) that will make us feel special or attractive. The freedom inherent in jewellery can be compared with “a dream, which everyone of us has at least once in the life and after which, we wake up with the smile of deep feelings.”

By using the costume and photography, we examine the new view on “the old devil”.
Are our lenses the same as they were several centuries ago? Have we actually set us free through sexual revolution or we have just become dependant on propaganda of freedom?
The OMEN project reminds us how many warnings through centuries are necessary to observe the abuse of the very human being through the use of human body.

Bata KNEŽEVIĆ – posters (Europe Day)
TIME: Tuesday, 8 May 2007, at 7.00 pm - OPENING
PLACE: CHAOS Gallery, Cara Lazara Street, Belgrade
The exhibition is open until 27 May 2007.
The opening of the exhibition of Bata Knezevic, a graphic designer and a painter, with the title “DON'T SURRENDER EVEN TO YOURSELF” - whose main motto has been taken from Stanislaw Witkiewicz, a Polish playwright, mathematician, astronomer and above all, a painter of fantastic portraits, which, as a reflection of the time passing, depict the imperfection of the environment, social reality and one's life in it - will take place in the CHAOS Gallery, on the occasion of Europe Day. Conceptually, that exhibition is in accordance with the Belgrade Design Week.
“Taking notice of current events with the fixed date, place and time thereof, along with the personal attitude of Bata Knezevic towards them, no longer suffices in the times of an overall comprehensive devastation of society, moral nothingness and excessive offer of characters, where they promote, over and over again, the ideas that have already been wasted long ago. Those who are almost forgotten, resurrect, both dressed in fancy clothes and made-up, with well-brightened and sweet cream, they offer themselves and their supporters, often toadies and protégés, with the following text: I, Serbia, NATION...Whom is this intended for? WHO CAN BEAR ALL THIS? “- asks the artist, a renowned graphic designer of posters.
“Of course, in the era of sale and an inevitable partner of sale - marketing has the answer to all this - THE PROFIT IS EVERYTHING! Political profit, in particular, and the secretion of various demagogies in this region is so profitable. That iconosphere represents our reality, all those years that we can hardly count, let alone survive, have motivated me to make, as an artist, my own comment, through art and verbal symbols, characteristic of the language of posters.
I dedicate the exhibition of my works in the CHAOS Gallery (8-27 May) to the assassinated Prime Minister, Zoran Djindjic, who has defended, by his own life, the dignity of all of us. His courage and smarts were such that he could not have been forgiven.“

According to the opinion of foreign journalists, one of the most outstanding exhibitions during the first Belgrade Design Week in April 2006, was a multimedia installation Ghost Project, organized by Mikser studio. At the same time, Ghost Project both celebrates the never-ending enthusiasm and the ideas of domestic young creative persons and strongly criticizes the absence of symbiotic relationship between designers and industry in our country.
Since industrial design does not exist in our country, in the real sense of the word, the exhibition is symbolically named GHOST, and it equally treats “virtual” and realized projects of domestic authors - through innovative media in presenting design solutions, such as web, computer animation, video, audio, etc.
By deliberately playing with the “intangibility” of an object, Ghost Project positions our creative “reality” in the real social-economic context. “Esotery” of the approach has a double function: it illustrates the current social status of a designed object in our country (Ghost/Duh), and, at the same time, it draws us closer to the global way of treating a designed thing as an “object of worship”, “object of desire”. From the corridor of their own thoughts, the ideas of creators strive to evolve into the stage between these two extremes and finally to take active part in creating the physical image of our reality.
Initially conceived as a platform for the presentation of unrealized ideas of the latest-generation Serbian designers, Ghost Project has a potential to become a continuing project - a dynamic “data base” on domestic talents, available to the public, as well as to national and international media and manufacturers. One of the main aims of the project is to draw attention of the public and manufacturers to the domestic creative potential, as well as to motivate the authors to participate more actively in the creation of our cultural and social reality.
The special guest of the Ghost Project 07 exhibition will be Marva Griffin Wilshire, the founder and today a curator of Salone Satellite, within Milan Furniture Fair (I Saloni Satelite), who promotes the incoming young talents in design. Marva is a Director for media relations of the International furniture fair in Milan and a member of the Design and Architecture Board of MOMA in New York. She cooperates with the following magazines of the publishing house Conde Nast: Maison & Garden, Vogue Decoration, American House & Garden and Vogue.
