Eugenio Perazza was born in 1940 in Ceggia, Venice. After some experience working with Veneto based companies, he founded Magis in 1976 as a no-factory production company for the mass production of furniture and household accessories with a high technological profile and worldwide distribution. Magis is today appreciated for the high quality of its projects and products. The Financial Times considers Magis as one of the ten leading Italian companies in the design industry. Wallpaper - one of the most important English fashion and design magazines - describes Eugenio Perazza as one of the ten persons “who will change the way we live”. Magis currently cooperates with leading global designers, such as Sapper, Morrison, Mari, Giovannoni, Arad, Newson, Seymour, Young, Grcic, Fukasawa, Heatherwick and the Bouroullecs. For example, the “Air-Chair” (2000) by Jasper Morrison combines deceivingly simple design with a sophisticated gas-assisted injection moulding process. “Chair_One” (2003) is a diecast aluminium chair-cum-frame-cum-skeleton born of the talent of Konstantin Grcic, a design that propels the brand towards new manufacturing goals, and decrees “the end of the dictatorship of plastic”. Some of Magis’ products are also part of the permanent collections in important museums such as the MoMa in New York, the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, the Design Museum in London, das Museum für Gestaltung in Zurich, le Musée National d’Art Moderne Beaubourg in Paris. The challenge lying ahead of MAGIS is perhaps that of returning to simplicity, through the complexity of advanced technology. |
