LUIGI COLANI is certainly one of the most famous designers of our time, yet one of the most controversial as well. There are the ones who see him as a professional critic or a design entertainer, but there are also those who almost worship him as a genius and a philosopher. Born in Berlin, grew up in Switzerland, and now lives in Germany. The prime characteristic of his designs are the rounded, organic forms, which he claims are ergonomically superior to traditional designs. His "kitchen satellite" from 1969 is the most prominent example of this school of thought. His unconventional designs have made him famous, not only in design circles, but also to the general public. His designs are the part of many museum collections, such as Cooper-Hewitt and MoMa in New York. |
