FILMSKI CENTAR SRBIJE (The Serbian Film Centre) is a governmental organisation, working under the auspices of the Ministry of Culture, with the aim of enabling and managing the process of strategic development and reconstruction of cinematography in Serbia.
FILMSKI CENTAR SRBIJE was founded in order to:
- Creatively encourage and administer financial support for cinematography in Serbia, through annual competitions for the development of scripts and projects, film production and post-production, distribution and the screening of films.
- Help with the formation of a legal and financial frame for the development of cinematography through which the necessary transformation of the film industry and culture could be carried out according to standards of the European Union.
- Enable the distribution and protection of the cinematographic cultural heritage.
- Create favourable conditions for educating the general public and for the steady professional development of cinematography personnel through educational programmes.
FILMSKI CENTAR SRBIJE is managed by the Management Board, comprising nine members appointed by the Serbian Governement. FILMSKI CENTAR SRBIJE is headed by the executive and creative Director of the Centre, appointed by the Serbian Government. FILMSKI CENTAR SRBIJE is organised in the following manner: MANAGEMENT, DEPARTMENT OF PUBLICATIONs, EDUCATION AND DOCUMENTATION, and DEPARTMENT FOR INTERNATIONAL COOPERATION. Each department is headed by a coordinator.
THE MANAGEMENT is in charge of the following funds:
THE FILM FUND, which administers financial support for film projects in the phase of initiated production, chosen at a public competition given by the Filmski Centar Srbije, by agreement of the Serbian Ministry of Culture.
THE FUND FOR PROJECT DEVELOPMENT, which administers financial support at a public competition of elected film synopses and scene sequences, and through mentor work both helps in their development and oversees the process of realisation.
THE DISTRIBUTION FUND, which administers funds and participates in the creation of projects which creatively resolve the mutually-excluding interests of commercial and non-commercial films.
THE PRESENTATION fund, which administers financial and creative cooperation in projects aiming to create a national network of cinemas and projects of small cinema networks, showing local and foreign non-commercial films.
THE MANAGEMENT creates and advises the legislative and political infrastructure in projects for the strategic development of cinematography in Serbia, and offers infrastructural and adminstrative support to other departments of the Filmski Centar Srbije.
THE DEPARTMENT OF INTERNATIONAL COOPERATION communicates with all related overseas institutions, foundations, festivals, associations and individuals.
This department operates in two directions: FOREIGN FUNDS AND COPRODUCTIONS administers communication and creates a framework to enable representatives of local cinematography to contact foreign funds. It also participates in the formation of regional and European production networks.
FESTIVALS AND PROMOTIONS participates in the production of conferences, publications and thematic cycles dedicated to the promotion of films in Serbia, at international festivals, and other similar events..
THE DEPARTMENT OF PUBLICATION, EDUCATION AND DOCUMENTATION manages development and research projects in the field of film culture, independently and through the development of strategic partnerships with institutions and authors dealing with film culture, and initiating development projects in the areas of publication, education and documentation.
PUBLISHING develops publishing projects to popularize film culture and to position it as a leading segment in the field of visual culture.
EDUCATION develops educational programmes intended for all involved in the film industry and specialized projects to educate pupils and students from pre-school to post-graduate educational levels.
DOCUMENTATION develops projects in the area of improving standards in preserving, protecting and distributing information within Serbian cinematography.
