Colin Finnegan: Colin Finnegan is a British native, and has been living and working as an Interior Designer in the Netherlands since 1989. After studying interior design in the UK, Finnegan freelanced with various architecture offices before setting up his own. Finnegan met Gerard Glintmeijer in 1993 and their shared passion of design and expression of style through interior spaces saw them join forces two years later: in 1995 Finnegan started working with Glintmeijer as a partner and founder of FG stijl. FG stijl: THE STUDIO FG stijl is a company comprising several different disciplines: interior architecture, architecture, product design, styling and graphic design. This combination of talents is utilized across a variety of projects that includes restaurants, hotels, offices and retail spaces. The office is located close to Amsterdams Central Station on one of the citys redeveloped design islands, in the recently completed industrial Detroit-building whose vista overlooks the famous River IJ. Consistently striving for a style that is representative of the culture in which the project is constructed, the team develops the entire aesthetic of each project: they harmoniously bring together both architecture and interior design. A BRIEF HISTORY In March 2005 the Amsterdam based interior design consultancy FG stijl (founded by Colin Finnegan and Gerard Glintmeijer) celebrated their tenth year anniversary. Their first decade produced a prolific body of work, the culmination of which was expressed in their native Amsterdam’s award winning, The College Hotel, which coincidentally opened in their anniversary year.FG stijl found themselves on the interior design map as a result of commissions from some of the Netherlands most exclusive restaurants. Their vision created the ambience in four of the Netherlands Michelin starred restaurants. Restaurant Parkheuvel in Rotterdam is probably the best known as it was the first restaurant in the country to be awarded three Michelin stars. Since then the companies reputation has grown and they are responsible for several prestigious international projects. VISION Without there being an obvious FG stijl style, our aim is to understand who the client is and to place ourselves in their environment. In our capacity as interior-architects we develop the total concept of a project. From the initial idea beginning with the construction of logical spatial planning, we use our knowledge of interior style to nurture the ambience of a space, as well as the way the space looks for those who will experience it. We see our role as communicating your message to your clients and customers through design and style. The design process is not about what we think and how we would do things. It is the client who must live, work or exist in the space. FG stijl - Amsterdam: designed by designers, built for people. |
