Studio Simbiosis
Project: GENERATOR - Open Air Workshop
April 17 - April 22
Plateau in front of the City Library, corner of Knez Mihajlova Street and Raiceva Street.

Studio Simbiosis is organizing a dramatic workshop on the streets of Belgrade during the BDW. Project GENERATOR - Open Air Workshop is the initiator of analyzing and processing information and creates a positive surrounding and includes passers-by in the process of projecting.

GENERATOR itself was created from a series of obstacles of low intensity and it engages the users to surpass these obstacles thus inadvertently taking part in an analysis for a new project. The generator’s visual aspect represents an abstract multi media exhibition space, while the user himself is inadvertently taking part as an input for a new project of selFFice that will be developed during the course of the workshop and will be presented daily in its current phase. The process of projecting and generating the selFFice project will be accompanied with a series of non-standard out door performances.

Genesis of selFFise Project
April 17 – April 22
Plateau in front of the City Library, corner of Knez Mihajlova Street and Raiceva Street.

During GENERATOR - Open Air Workshop, a real time genesis of selFFice Project will be taking place. Project selFFice was created from the idea of “opening” a public area, animating it and the adoption of the same by the users. Work in a public area is a phenomenon which resulted from the contemporary explosion of information, the need for change, and the wish to exist in a real world while at the same time interacting in the virtual world of messages and information.

Project selFFice transfers a part of employees’ lives into a public ambiance, it brings down the utopian views on the privacy of offices, and it adjusts to the dynamics of needs of deferent professions and users. selFFice transforms the public space into a place for exchanging information, which enables one to continue working at all times. SELF OFFICE promotes the removal of physical barriers and supports a unique work ambiance which can be adjusted to different needs depending on the kind of work that is being done, the anatomy of the human body and its position while working.

Using Belgrade Design Week as a framework, the French Cultural Centre is co-organizing an exhibition with the French Agency for Promotion of Industrial Design (APCI). Founded in 1983, this agency aims to indicate to manufacturers and producers in all sectors that the design is today an unavoidable asset in the international market, and also to familiarize the wider public with their right to design, regardless of their shopping, economic and cultural power. Beside that, the APCI’s mission is to spread the use of design in order to improve the quality of life.

In order to promote the French industrial design in France and abroad, this agency sets about organizing traveling shows, and since 1999 has been presenting the most representative everyday objects, outcomes of an efficient cooperation between manufacturers and designers.

This exhibition offers an insight into some 50 products selected for the WATCHER 06 display, focusing on the so-called ‘stars’, or the best products awarded in the current year. The visitors will have an opportunity to discover, among other, the rabbit in the service of new forms of communication, 100% rust-free fabric, an imaginative breakfast set….
All in all, a handful of pretty surprises in store for you!

The BETON HALA, abandoned and neglected during the past 60 years, is resurfacing in the new light as SUPERSPACE only to start something which soon could turn into the center of cultural offer of Belgrade.

GHOST PROJECT

Friday, 21 April at 21h / Beton Hala / Future Jazz Institute / Savsko Pristanište / Karađorđeva 2

www.mikser.org

Author: Maja Vidaković
Exhibition Design: Marija Kalabić

Graphic Design: Andrej Dolinka

Video Design: Dragan Dimčić

Production: MIKSER

GHOST PROJECT is a multi media installation which simultaneously celebrates the inexhaustible enthusiasm and ideas of young creators and severely criticizes the absence of a symbiotic connection between designers and industry in our country.
As industrial design doesn’t really exist in its true sense, this exhibition has been symbolically named GHOST PROJECT, equally treating the “virtual” and realized projects of local creators.

GHOST PROJECT is fore mostly intended to provide an intensive experience than to offer a methodological review of authors and designs.
Through an audio-visual installation – projections of photographs and animations of designed objects – actual objects also acquire a metaphysical meaning.

Deliberately toying with the “intangibility” of objects, GHOST PROJECT positions our creative “reality” in a realistic social-economic context.
The “esotericism” of approach has a twofold function: it illustrates the current social status of a designed object in our country (Ghost), and at the same time it brings us closer to the global manner of treating designed things, as “objects of adoration”, “objects of desire” (God). From the corridors of our own thoughts, the creators’ ideas are trying to evolve into a stadium somewhere between these two extremes and finally take an active participation in the creation of the physical image of our reality.

Observe/ Listen carefully.

MAXIM VELCOVSKY & QUBUS
Exhibition
Saturday, April 22, 2006, at 19.00h
Vanue: Salon of the Museum of Contemporary Arts
Address: Pariska St. 14

Maxim Velcovsky is one of the most original and most sought after designers in the Prague art scene, considered to be one of the most important proponents of the new wave of the Check design. He works in plain white porcelain, creating modern, functional and quirky objects with a tinge of humor. Velcovsky takes everyday cheap object and transforms them into witty and elegant 'must-have' objects. A plain white plastic cup or a cut-off bottom of a plastic bottle are made up in fine white porcelain, with a cheeky small red label that says 'New!'

Velcovsky also uses references typical for the culture he stems form. Thus his fruit bowl dubbed ‘The Republic’ has the shape of the Check Republic. His works carry a subtle hints of kitsch, are sweet and funny, disrespectful of tradition and incredibly desirable. This has not gone unnoticed – his products have entered the mass production and are sold at the exclusive Prague shop Qubus.

A selection of Qubus shop objects will be exhibited in the Salon of the Museum of Contemporary Arts, from April 19 through April 26.

od-do (to-and-fro) are Nataša Ilinčić, Jelena Videnov, Jugoslava Kljakić, Ana Jakić.

The work of the od-do team of authors includes different, interconnected disciplines, from architecture, through interior and furniture design, to stage, graphic and web design.

During the Belgrade Design Week the od-do will present a video installation showing the process of designing everyday objects – a portrayal of a surrounding in which a designer creates, and which simultaneously frustrates, confines and reassures, and of final results in shape of executed, displayed pieces of furniture. Video document testifies to a conflicting and ironic representation between the process of execution that a designer undergoes and what s/he aspires to while creating the object existing in their minds.
